Managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said Iran will export gas to Afghanistan through either compressed natural gas (CNG) or pipeline after Kabul presents its import plans.
Speaking to IRNA Saturday, Ali Reza Kameli said after the Afghan side presents its plans on those ways of exports, Iran can start exporting gas to that country.
Private sector in Afghanistan has expressed readiness to import gas from Iran during talks with Iranian officials, said Kameli.
On the amount and price of the exports, Kameli said the issues could be discussed later.
The other side should also make it clear where it wants to receive the gas if the plan is on importing gas through pipeline, the official added.
Despite sitting on the worlds largest natural gas reserves and enjoying enough capacity for gas exports, Irans foothold in the area of exports of gas is not favorable.
However, Iran exchanges gas with neighboring countries.
Turkey is the biggest importer of Irans gas. According to mutual agreement, Iran should yearly export 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey.
Oman, Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia are among the countries to which Iran exports gas or swap it.
