Oman says welcomes Iran investment to develop an Omani port (15 May 2016)
Omani ambassador to Tehran Saud bin Ahmad al-Barwani said on Sunday that his government welcomes Iranian investment to put an Omani port to operation.
He made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with head of Irans Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Valiollah Afkhami Rad.
The ambassador said that Oman will also unveil its new visa package for the Iranians in the near future.
Oman regards Iran as an ally and a brotherly neighbor, al-Barwani said, adding that Iran and the entire world are well aware that Oman has never rendered such services to any Arab, Western or Eastern country.
On Omans visa package for Iranians, al-Barwani said that once completed, the scheme would offer at least one-year visas to investors which can also be extended if they intend to stay in Oman for a longer time.
The ambassador said that upon a request made by the Iranian government, Oman has allocated a space for 3,000 tons of commodities in the Port of Saham to Iran.
He said that the Omani government believes that the Iranians would develop the port to a trade port.
If the Iranian merchants fail to make use of this golden opportunity, Indian and Chinese merchants would leave them behind, al-Barwani said.
