Iranian Economy Minister Seyed Ehsan Khandouzi and Tajik Ambassador to Iran Nizamuddin Zahedi in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need to expand trade and economic relations to the level of €500 million.
During the meeting in the Iranian capital, the two sides explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation in different fields.
During the meeting, the Iranian economy minister said that preliminary grounds should be provided in line with promoting bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries to the level of €500 million.
Pointin to the efforts by the Islamic Republic of Iran for developing and enhancing relations with neighboring states, Khandouzi put special emphasis on the need for planning long-term cooperation in Iran’s technical and economic fields.
In a relevant development in mid-September, Iran and Tajikistan signed eight documents in the presence of Iranian and Tajik presidents in Dushanbe to broaden cooperation in various fields.
The signed documents included six memorandums of understanding, one agreement, and one technical protocol on customs cooperation.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) officially admitted Iran as a new member of the Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance at its 21st summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on September 17.
"Perfectly pleased to announce that the permanent membership document of the Islamic Republic of Iran was approved by the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Dushanbe in the presence of our esteemed President," Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian tweeted.
"This strategic membership has an important impact on the process of comprehensive cooperation between Iran in line with the policy of neighborhood with and pivot to Asia," he added.
The 21st edition of SCO kicked off in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan on September 17.
The SCO consists of nine permanent member states, including Iran, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kirgizstan, Pakistan, Russia and Uzbekistan. Three states of Afghanistan, Belarus, and Mongolia are still observer members and six countries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkeyو and Sri Lanka are dialogue partners.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an effective regional and intra-state organization, which was established by leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in 2001.
