Iran, Switzerland keen on banking cooperation (27 February 2016)

Governor of Central Bank of Iran Valiollah Seif hailed Swiss banks interest to collaborate with Iranian banks, hoping that the two countries will make optimal use of their banking capacities.

He said that given Majliss ratification about money laundering, Swiss officials are required to have necessary cooperation in excluding Irans name from the list of financial supporters of terrorism.

Seif also said that Swiss banking will get familiar with Irans measures taken for transparency during regular meetings.

The Iranian official also underlined transparency details of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in the banking sector, noting that certain ambiguities arise from extreme cautiousness of talking parties against Iran.

Contending that Iranian banks comply with international standards, Seif said that Majlis has made a ratification on fighting financial support of terrorism, paving the way for implementing the international standards.

Establishment of strong economic ties is a requirement for transparent banking, he said, noting that Iranian banks also performed international regulations well in the past.

Secretary of State for International Finance Rene Weber, for his part, said that bilateral ties were excellent in the past and Switzerland have had necessary cooperation with Iran in financial transfers and financing.

In post-sanctions era, the country is willing to provide Iran with necessary consultations, in addition to promoting relations in the educational, technical and legal fields.

Swiss special envoy invited Iranian banking officials to visit the country, their trip will pave the way for suitable banking ties between the two nations.
