Finland Calls for Expanding Bilateral Ties with Iran (11 March 2017)

Finnish Ambassador to Tehran Harri Kamarainen called for expanding mutual cooperation with Iran, specially in trade and economic fields, in the post-sanctions era.


"My country has been among the first European states that started expanding relations with Iran after the international agreement was reached between Iran and the six major world powers (the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany)," the Finnish envoy said on Saturday.


He reiterated that under the current conditions, there is no serious problem for Iran’s activity in the world markets.


The Finnish diplomat stressed the importance of getting familiar with each other’s capacities, and said that the exchange of trade delegations between the two countries will make the two sides move towards getting familiar with each other.


Iran exports different kinds of products, including hand-made carpets, fruits, furniture and glassware to Finland.


In a relevant development in late October, Tehran and Helsinki signed four cooperation agreements on energy, communications, technology, environment and investment.


A signing ceremony for inking the bilateral agreements was held in Tehran at Sadabad Complex. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his visiting Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinistö attended the event.


Memorandum of Understanding on energy sector is one of the documents signed by Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian and Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen.


In the field of Communications and Technology, Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi and his Finnish counterpart Kai Mykkänen signed a cooperation agreement to further the cooperation.


The third agreement on natural resource management was signed between Irans Head of Forests and Rangelands Organization Khodakaram Jalali and Finlands Kai Mykkänen.


Irans Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Mohammad Khazaei and Finlands Executive Vice President Jussi Haarasilta inked fourth MoU on cooperation of Irans Organization for Investment and Technical Assistance and Finlands Export Credit Agency Finnvera.
