Austrian Ambassador to Tehran Friedrich Stift voiced readiness of his countrys banks to broaden cooperation and establish branches in Iran in the near future.
"The Austrian banks intend to return to Iran; an Austrian bank has already voiced its preparedness to launch its branch in Iran," Stift said on Monday, addressing a conference on developing Iran-Austria trade cooperation.
He underlined that establishing Austrian banks in Tehran will help to broaden economic relations between the two countries.
Stift pointed to Iran-Austria economic relations over past years, and said, "During some years in the past the two countries trade balance hit 800 million euros and Austria imported 400 million euros from Iran, but now the level of the two countries relations has been reduced."
In early June, Iranian Economy Minister Ali Tayyebnia and Director General of the Austrian Control Bank Rudolf Scholten in a meeting in Vienna discussed bilateral ties, specially in economic fields.
During the meeting in the Austrian capital, Scholten voiced his readiness to cover the implementation of different projects and issuance of the needed guarantees.
Tayyebnia, for his part, pointed to his previous meetings which resulted in the removal of the problems related to the arrears, and underlined the need for expediting the implementation of the relevant projects.
The Iranian economy minister pointed to the measures taken in Iran to fight money-laundering, fighting financial support for the terrorist groups and the relevant approvals by the Iranian parliament, and said the economy ministry is ready to do the needed cooperation in all financial and banking areas.
Tayyebnia paid a two-day visit to Vienna in early June to attend the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of the fund of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna.
Tayyebnia also met OPECs economy ministers during his 2-day stay in Vienna on the sidelines of attending the oil cartels financial meeting.
The OPEC Council of Ministers convenes every year to render the OPEC funds report, review the development aids granted by the organization to the developing countries and study the funds financial reports.
Special ceremonies were also underway in Vienna on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of held for the establishment of OPECs fund at the presence of high-ranking officials of organization in Vienna.
The 169th ordinary meeting of the OPEC oil and energy ministers is also underway in Vienna.
