Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak met Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh in Moscow on Monday, Russia’s Energy Ministry said.
During the meeting, they discussed potential bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries and through OPEC, the ministry said in a statement.
The two ministers also discussed the possibility of Russian oil and gas companies taking part in mining projects in Iran and cooperation in joint infrastructure gas projects, the statement added.
They also touched upon cooperation in multilateral formats, in particular, through the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), it said.
"Regular contacts at the highest level create favorable conditions for strengthening bilateral cooperation both at the interagency level and at the corporate level," Novak said.
In March, Russia and Iran signed a string of cooperation agreements in various fields including the energy sector. The two sides paid particular attention to bilateral projects in the nuclear power industry and agreed to continue coordinated efforts to stabilize international markets, Reuters reported.
